11 Ways You’re Brushing Your Teeth all Wrong

Research shows that one in four adults don’t brush twice a day, only 31% of adults use mouthwash and just 21% of adults use dental floss regularly.

Here are 11 secrets for keeping your teeth white and healthy:

1. Your toothbrush bristles aren’t soft enough. Those bristles are often too harsh for your teeth and gums, so most dentists don’t recommend them.

Instead, choose soft or ultra-soft bristles that can gently get down under the gum line.

2. You also want the head of the brush to be small enough to easily reach all your teeth.

3. You’re brushing too hard. Go hard or go home doesn’t apply to brushing your teeth. They get just as clean when you brush gently, and it’s better for your gums.

4. Brushing up and down isn’t good for your gums. Try brushing in small circles instead.

5. Tilt the brush to a 45-degree angle so it hits your tooth and gum line at the same time.

6. The American Dental Association (ADA) says you should brush for at least two minutes (twice a day). Some dentists recommend going up to four minutes.

7. Brush your tongue for fresher breath. According to the ADA, studies have shown that just brushing your tongue can reduce bad breath by as much as 70 percent.

8. Sensitive or bleeding gums? Use a rotating toothbrush. If you have just started flossing, your gums may be sore and might bleed but if you get into the routine of flossing then after a week or so the bleeding should stop.

If you find your gums still bleed, see a dentist.

9. Choose alcohol free mouthwash. Alcohol is the main ingredient in a lot of products on the market because of its high ability to kill bad bacteria but it also kills good bacteria in the mouth.

10. Brush before breakfast. Make sure you get your brushing out of the way before you eat in the morning.

This is the ideal time as tooth decay is caused by the bacteria in our mouths using the food we eat to produce acid causing our teeth to decay.

11. Avoid eating for an hour before bed. This is so the saliva in your mouth has a chance to clear away food debris and neutralise acid.

Say Goodbye To Bad Breath, Tartar And Plaque With This Home Dental Whitening

We all know that to maintain proper oral hygiene we need to use toothbrush, dental floss and mouth wash but quite a few of us are familiar with the amazing benefits of rinsing the mouth with coconut oil. You just need to use this “oil pusher” that is one tablespoon of this oil which will kill harmful bacteria that destroy your teeth and are the main culprit for bad breath. Although this method is becoming more and more popular actually it is used in an ancient Ayurveda medicine, 3000 ago. Coconut oil also helps in keeping your teeth white.

If you decide to use this natural toothpaste with coconut oil you will be safe from gingivitis, reduce the risk from tooth decay, eliminate the bad breath etc. All of this is because of antimicrobial properties of coconut oil. Be careful because some web sites sell coconut oil for cosmetic use which contains chemicals not suitable for oral consumption.

Virgin coconut oil is recommended especially the Coconut oil brand because it has reasonable price and with good quality. It is also organic and is quite easy to be prepared -homemade toothpaste with coconut oil. In a bowel melt several tablespoons of Virgin Coconut Oil (30g). Then add about 45g of baking soda. Mix with a fork until you obtain a mixture similar to commercial toothpaste. This mixture also helps in teeth whitening because of the sodium bicarbonate.

Apply this toothpaste just as the toothpaste from the store. But you must be aware that coconut oil hardens above 24-26 degrees so some people may choose to spit out the toothpaste after brushing in the trash not in the sink. We know that the oil weigh less than the water so the oil floats and doesn’t remain on the pipes. Though, you shouldn’t throw the oil in the sink in order to avoid polluting the environment. Use this toothpaste to brush the tongue as well. Its antimicrobial properties will destroy the bacteria on the tongue which cause bad breath. Also you will feel the pleasant and fresh coconut scent which is rarely obtained with ordinary toothpaste and in the same time you will avoid harmful chemicals found in commercial toothpaste. We appreciate that you have read this text and if you think it is useful share it with family and friends.

Strawberries

You may not believe it, but you can whiten your teeth with strawberries also. The teeth will be brighter if you rub strawberries on them, and sometimes it is enough to just eat them. They contain enzymes that whiten teeth. However, because of the fruit sugar they containin, brush your teeth after eating strawberries.

Orange, lemon and banana peel

The inside of the orange, lemon and banana peel contains ingredients that help to whiten teeth. It is enough to rub the peel on which you will put a pinch of salt over your teeth and then brush your teeth.

Apple cider vinegar

In a glass of water, put a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and rinse your mouth with it. This method can serve every day, because the liquid is diluted and harmless to the health of your teeth and will help whiten them.

Try any of these tricks, you will not go wrong, and your teeth will be white and shiny!

This Is Why You Should Brush With Sea Salt And Baking Soda

We all love a bright smile and those perfectly whit teeth. But we hate the expensive products that either don’t work or offer a sort term result. Brushing your teeth with some sea salt and/or baking soda is a safe and natural way to ensure strong teeth and gums, break down plaque buildup, and protect against bad breath. Use them alone or together, sea salt and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) are inexpensive, time-tested treatments for tooth care.

How To Use The Sea Salt

Minerals like calcium, magnesium, silicon, phosphorus, sodium, nickel, iron—and many more are found in sea salt. These nutrients strengthen gums, protect against tarter and bad breath, and may even whiten your teeth over time. High in iodine, sea salt has antibacterial properties and helps neutralize acids in the mouth. Salt makes you salivate, and your saliva creates an antibacterial barrier that protects your enamel.

The way to use them is to either dip a wet toothbrush into a half teaspoon of sea salt and brush your teeth as you regularly would…or you can rinse with a saltwater solution. Mix a half teaspoon of sea salt with four ounces of warm water. Let the salt dissolve, and then slosh the solution around in your mouth for 30 seconds. Be sure to spit and not swallow when done! A saltwater rinse helps allay swollen, inflamed gums and rinses away bacteria in the mouth.

How To Use Baking Soda

It has long been praised as the natural way to whiten teeth. It’s gritty enough to clean your teeth of tarter and plaque without being so abrasive that it wears away your tooth enamel.

Sodium bicarbonate is highly alkaline, and as such counteracts acids in the mouth (acids cause tooth decay), kills bacteria and germs, and combats bad breath.

You can mix baking soda with water into a paste-like consistency to clean teeth. Or you can combine baking soda and salt to make your own homemade toothpaste. If you aren’t comfortable ditching your traditional toothpaste entirely, brush with sea salt and baking soda once or twice a week as supplemental dental care.

Are there any side effects to be wary of? According to Dr. Paul H. Keyes D.D.S., clinical investigator at the National Institute of Dental Research, NO! Keyes maintains, “Over the years when I was lecturing, I asked thousands of dentists and hygienists to raise their hands if they had ever seen destructive periodontal disease in person[s] who had regularly brushed with salt and/or [baking] soda. I have never seen a hand! And although I have not seen many such cases, the periodontal health in these patients has always been excellent.”
